Eucharistic Visitor
Training
A Licensed Ministry
This two-Saturday program is designed to provide those who take communion
to the homebound with the skills necessary to satisfactorily carry out
their mission. Licensing for this ministry is arranged through the local
congregation.
The first Saturday will concentrate on theological and liturgical concerns
associated with the ministry, including reflection on suffering, loneliness
and isolation. The second Saturday will consider interpersonal and pastoral
concerns, such as the nature of the pastoral relationship, the importance
of boundaries, and the responsibilities associated with this ministry.
The suggested text for the course is A Manual for Lay Eucharistic
Ministers in the Church by Beth Wickenberg Ely.
The Ministry of Healing Prayer
This two-Saturday program will provide participants with an understanding
of healing prayer and opportunities to practice praying for healing
with others. It is especially suited for persons employed in health
ministries and for those who work in congregation-based ministries of
healing.
The first Saturday will include an overview of the Scriptures’
approach to healing, a history of the healing ministry, and reflections
on the integration of faith and health.
The second Saturday will consider interpersonal and pastoral concerns,
including listening skills, the use of touch, working in teams, and
a rule of life to support the ministry.
Worship Leader Training
A Licensed Ministry
Worship Leaders most often plan for and officiate at the daily offices,
particularly Morning and Evening Prayer. This newly designed workshop
will focus particularly upon understanding the history
and structure of the offices and will provide increased opportunities
for practice. Topics covered include:
• The nature of worship
• The sanctification of time
• Legacies of Anglican worship
• The structure and elements of the daily office
• The use of the Daily Office Lectionary
• The selection of appropriate canticles, prayers and hymns
• Leadership in various settings, including congregations,
retreats and care centers
• The spirituality of leading public worship
Attendance at all sessions is required. Those completing the workshop
are eligible to sit for an examination administered by parish clergy
that prepares candidates for licensure. Licensing of worship leaders
is at the discretion of the Bishop.
Please note that lector training, formerly included in this workshop,
will now be offered at Ministry Resource Day.
