Diocesan School of Ministry and Theology takes Year Sabbatical
July 27, 2009
Dear Friends,
After a time of reflection and financial review, and in consultation with Bishop Rivera and Dean Mack, I have decided the Diocesan School of Ministry and Theology will be on sabbatical for the 2009-10 academic year. In reviewing the diocesan budget and necessary cuts that need to be made, this seemed to be a good opportunity for the school to continue developing, among other things, a plan for online and distance learning. There is a need for time to clarify what path the school is to take to provide viable and applicable programs to the entire diocese in the future.
The school has provided a rich and nurturing environment for many students. I feel by taking this year of evaluation, it will allow us to determine the interests and ever changing needs of congregations in our diocese.
The school will continue to take requests from churches for Worship Leader, Eucharistic Visitor and Eucharistic Minister trainings days. There will, however, not be quarterly classes offered at the Diocesan House.
We look forward to the exciting future DSOMAT has as we focus on how to most effectively make the school's offerings available to all who are interested.
Faithfully,
The Rt. Rev. Greg Rickel
Bishop of Olympia
