Anti-Racism Training Seminars

These trainings offer the opportunity for theological reflection on Jesus’ vision of community, respecting the dignity of every human being. Information about racism today, and steps needed to become a multi-cultural congregation; and effective methods and materials for bringing this dialogue into our faith communities for the purpose of being faithful disciples of an inclusive church and a symbol of Pentecost to the world.

Introductory anti-racism workshops have various elements in common, but each is unique, allowing trainers to tailor the training experience to the group. Some of the elements include: Bible study, guideline, cultural sharing, concepts, dimensions of change, and videos. There will be several interactive exercises and everyone is encouraged to be actively involved. The facilitators do not have all the answers – they are partners on the journey.

Trainings are based on mutual love, honesty, and respect.

The duration of the training is ten hours. We prefer to do training Friday evening from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. For additional information please contact Carla Robinson at crobinson@ecww.org or (206) 826-7217 or (880) 488-4978 x2017.

Education for Ministry (EfM)

The basics of a theological education are covered in this four year program, which includes study of the Bible, church history and twentieth century theology. Small groups (6-12 people) meet, usually weekly, for sessions of theological reflection, discussion of the material they have read from texts provided by Sewanee, and worship.

Group leaders are trained as mentors and facilitators for the sessions and must have themselves engaged in serious religious study; leaders may be lay or ordained. Groups meet weekly during the academic year and although many people complete the entire four years, participants are only asked to commit to one year at a time. There is a cost for each participant, but because the Diocese of Olympia is a member of the EfM program, the cost is less than would be otherwise.

Last year, over twenty groups met in locations around the Diocese. For more information, contact Sue Tait, resource@ecww.org or (206) 826-7243 or (880) 488-4978 x2043.

In this place where faith and art swirl intertwined, community gathers within the changing beauty of a mountain landscape. Snowcapped peaks, rushing waters, and golden meadows welcome, inspire, and create an environment in which to risk, to learn, to grow, to change forever touched." – Excerpted from the Grunewald Guild website.
