While denied clerical authority for centuries, women's pastoral ministries flourished nonetheless. We will examine the care of souls provided by representative women from the earliest days of the tradition and consider the authority of women's ministries as grounded in charism rather than office, advocacy as a critical aspect of women's care, and the implications of the history of women's ministries for a revisionist understanding of pastoral care and the care of women today.
