Pastoral Care 102 • Building an Effective Pastoral Care Network

Many churches find themselves re-evaluating their pastoral care approaches, as leadership changes and lay ministers retire from active participation in pastoral care. Other churches have never had a fully developed pastoral care network and are unclear as to how to proceed to build a pastoral care organization. This workshop, based on research with 55 Episcopal churches in western Washington, provides some practical guidelines to those churches organizing or reorganizing their pastoral care efforts.

Topics include discussion of the range of activities, various pastoral care organizational models, roles and responsibilities, policies and procedures, tracking systems, communications and various other pastoral care challenges. Case study discussions and individual reflection opportunities are also provided.
