Expectations

Classes are open to all adults. Although one need not be Episcopalian to attend, classes are taught from an Anglican viewpoint and the assumption is that students wish to deepen their knowledge of the Episcopal ethos. Academic requirements and prerequisites are specified in the descriptions of various courses as appropriate. Expect reading and writing assignments, class projects, involvement in class discussions, and other special responsibilities in some classes. Generally classes have a five person minimum and a twenty person maximum, unless otherwise stated. The exception is conversational Spanish where the minimum is fifteen people.

Grades

Each successful completion of a course will be recorded as "Complete." Attendance at all four classes is normative and students must complete all required course work. "Incompletes" must be completed within ten days of the last class session of the course for which the grade is given. After ten days, an "Incomplete" becomes "Did Not Complete." Makeup work must be arranged with the instructor. Records of classes taken are kept in the Diocesan School of Ministry and Theology office.

Auditing

Students choosing to audit a class are not obligated to complete written assignments or class projects. Students who audit a class, however, will not receive credit for the class on the student’s transcript maintained by the school. Furthermore, in the case where the number of applicants exceeds the maximum class size for a given class, applicants registering for full credit will be given preference over those applicants who have chosen to audit the class. In such a case, tuition will be refunded.

Location

Most classes are taught at the Diocesan House in Seattle, located at 1551 Tenth Avenue E. The phone number is 206-325-4200 or 1-800-488-4978. If you need additional driving directions, please contact the office during the week or refer to the Diocese of Olympia website.

Books

The book list for your class will be mailed as soon as possible after the registration deadline. Books can be purchased from the Episcopal Book Store, 206-545-0500 or 1-800-803-6223. Some titles may be available online or from other sources.

Tuition

Tuition is $100 per class, except where otherwise noted.

Payment is due at the time of registration. If you cannot pay in full at that time, a deposit of at least 50 percent of the tuition must be sent with the registration form, with the balance to be paid by the beginning of the second class. Please make arrangements with the registrar at the time of registration. Scholarship assistance, up to one third of the tuition due, may be available.

Late Fees

The deadline for registration is six weeks before the first day of quarter. This gives enough time to procure the texts and complete assignments due at the first class. Registrations will be accepted after the deadline as long as there is space available. Late fees apply to late registrations.

The cost of classes goes up after the deadline:

  • 5 weeks out: $100
  • 4 weeks out: $105
  • 2 weeks out: $110

Late fees apply unless you have contacted the DSOMAT office before the deadline dates each quarter and have set up a payment schedule.

Refunds

  • Before first day of class: 100 percent
  • On first day of class: 75 percent
  • After first day of class: No refund

Registration Deadlines
